Part II reviews the ethical responsibilities of tax practitioners when completing returns implicating unsettled questions of law. The session will discuss substantial authority, reasonable basis, accuracy-related penalties, and Form 8275. It will also include many examples and a time for questions.

Kristine Tidgren, JD, is the director for the Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation and an adjunct assistant professor in the Agricultural Education & Studies Department. Kristine’s work focuses on studying and interpreting laws impacting the agricultural industry with a focus on agricultural taxation, and she is a frequent writer and speaker on these topics. Kristine is the author of the Ag Docket, a blog offering perspective on current agricultural law and tax issues, and has written for a number of publications including the National Income Tax Workbook.

Kitt Tovar, JD, is the staff attorney for the Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation. She focuses on areas of agricultural law including lease law, fence and property law, environmental and natural resource law, regulatory law, and farm policy. Prior to joining CALT, Kitt worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the Animal Production department at the University of Lleida in Catalonia, Spain, and interned with the international trade department for the National Pork Producers Council in Washington, D.C. While in law school, Kitt served as the Associate Editor for the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law, clerked for Brick Gentry, P.C., and worked at the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation.
