Generative AI and Tax Matters – Legal and Ethical Pitfalls

This seminar will provide attendees with an introduction to the ethical and legal issues arising when a practitioner or firm incorporates generative AI into routine tax operations. Attendees will be presented with an overview of recent legal controversies arising because of generative AI. Finally, participants will be exposed to key ethical principles to consider when drafting a firm policy for generative AI use.

Speaker
Michael J. Bootsma is a licensed attorney, CMA, and a C.P.A. He has held various positions in the area of accounting and law over the years. He currently teaches law, cost accounting, and taxation classes for Iowa State University as a Dean’s Teaching Fellow in Accounting. Michael graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance. He graduated with a Juris Doctorate and Masters of Accounting from the University of Iowa. He later earned a Masters of Taxation and LL.M. from Golden Gate University. He has published peer reviewed research in the area of accounting and is the primary author and editor of the textbook Comprehensive Business Law. Michael and his family live by the Saylorville Lake where they enjoy many outdoor activities.
