Filing Status/Requirements to File - Monday, October 10, 2016 from Noon to 1 PM (CST)
1 hour of CPE (federal tax law) - Program # Y7WRM-T-00160-16-O

  • One of the first issues a tax professional has to identity is the appropriate filing status for the individual or family. Once filing status has been determined we then must look at the requirement to file a return. Review of the various filing status with examples will be discussed. Tables to assist in this process will be introduced.  We will also introduce you to the common forms that individuals will bring is as provided by banks, employers and other entities. This is a basics ground up class but also a good class to review your understanding of filing requirements and filing status.

Dependents - Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from Noon to 1 PM (CST)
1 hour of CPE (federal tax law) - Program # Y7WRM-T-00161-16-O

  • One of the most difficult issues tax professionals face surrounds dependents. Partly due to the complex family situations in today’s society and partly due to the complex laws and tests we will cover common dependent issues through examples. A dependent can also be a qualifying relative. Tests and tables will be used. Dependent determinations can be difficult so a good review for an experienced tax professional would also benefit from this class.

Itemized Deductions/Standard Deduction - Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from Noon to 1 PM (CST)
1 hour of CPE (federal tax law) - Program # Y7WRM-T-00162-16-O

  • Is it better to itemize or take the standard deduction? A review of the difference, special rules for married filing separately and what deductions are allowed will be reviewed. We will also cover many of the common documents taxpayers received and some of the problem highly audited areas.

Child and Dependent Care - Thursday, October 13, 2016 from Noon to 1 PM (CST)
1 hour of CPE (federal tax law) - Program # Y7WRM-T-00163-16-O

  • Form 2441 Child and Dependent Care will be reviewed. Requirements needed to file, due diligence when those requirements are not met and the special preparation needed for dependent care flexible spending arrangements.

Education Credits - Friday, October 14, 2016 from Noon to 1 PM (CST)
1 hour of CPE (federal tax law) - Program # Y7WRM-T-00164-16-O
