Registration is now closed for this class: October 7, 2014 Noon-1:00 pm: The Application Process

Add to your knowledge base to assist your client if they have to apply for insurance through the Marketplace at Healthcare.gov.  The session sets the groundwork for all issues associated with the Affordable Care Act defining income and how the application process works.  You will be provided with information your client will need to apply for health coverage for the 2015 tax year or, to see if they qualify to apply for coverage outside the open season.  Many of the terms associated with the ACA Act will be defined and built upon in subsequent sessions.  Find out about household income, new forms you will have to deal with and answers to many common questions you will receive.  This session is schedule for one hour but could expand a few minutes beyond to address all the questions posed by the audience.  

Registration is now closed for this class: October 8, 2014 Noon -1:00 pm: The Premium Tax Credit

Learn how to calculate the Premium Tax Credit and whether your client will qualify. What forms will your client need to bring you and what information on the forms will you need in order to complete their tax return for 2014. Learn about the health care repayments caps and how they are figured as well as how to handle the ACA issues surrounding newly married or newly divorced couple and how it impacts the Premium Tax Credit. Finally, learn about a new filing requirement if your client gets the payment advanced and how the advanced premium reporting of changes within the year impact the Premium Tax Credit.

Registration is now closed for this class: October 9, 2014 Noon-1:00 pm: The Shared Responsibility Provisions (Penalties)

You will learn how to calculate the penalty on an individual or household and how it will apply to your client. What forms and calculations you need to be aware of and whether IRS can apply the penalty and collect.

Registration is now closed for this class: October 14, 2014 Noon-1:00 pm: Affordable Care Act Exemptions and Affordability Issues

Does your client qualify for a statutory exemption or hardship exemption from having to have health insurance? Find out how they can apply for the exemption in advance, whether they need to apply for an exemption and what information will they need on the application.  If not applies for in advance learn how you can assist your client or how you will assists them with filing Form 8965 for 2014 in 2015.  Finally, learn how to calculate whether your client has affordable health insurance, an important component in determining whether a penalty will apply for 2014.

Registration is now closed for this class: October 15, 2014: Noon-1:00pm: Navigating the ACA Forms - NEW!

1095 series, Exemption Certificates, Form 8962 Premium Tax Credit and Form 8965 Health Coverage Exemptions. We will walk through the forms and provide tips on completion and on areas where you may be required to make special calculations.  These forms are draft versions but will be NEW to all.

The ACA requires employers with 50 or more full-time (and full-time equivalent) employees to offer affordable health insurance to at least 95 percent of all full-time employees. Learn about this law and the penalties associated with Choosing not to offer coverage ($2,000 penalty for each full-time employee); or Providing a plan that does not meet certain minimum requirements ($3,000 penalty per employee who receives subsidized Marketplace coverage). Learn what you need to know to help your client comply with the ACA provisions.

Some of the issues we will address include what are your obligations in determining exemptions and penalties.  How far can you go to assist your client with Health Care issues, do you need a consent as required by §7216. What if you do not calculate the penalty?  Bottom line what is your due diligence as a preparer as it relates to ACA?

  • Iowa Attorneys: Each class has been approved for 1 hour of CLE
  • Enrolled Agents and Other Tax Return Preparers: Each class has been approved for 1 hour of CPE
  • Iowa CPAs: Each class qualifies for 1 hour of CPE

CPE certificates will be issued 1-2 weeks after the conclusion of the class, via e-mail.  

Please note: Others licensed by other state boards/organizations should check with their respective boards/organizations to determine if credit applies toward continuing education requirements.  CALT does not apply for CPE in other states, but will we assist in the process to make sure you receive your CPE credits.
