Biographical Sketch :: Erin Herbold


Erin C. Herbold is the Staff Attorney for the Iowa State University Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation. Before joining Iowa State, she was in the full-time practice of law with the Newbrough Law Firm in Ames, Iowa.

At Iowa State, Ms. Herbold assists the director, Professor Roger McEowen, with the Center’s development and conduct of educational programs in agricultural law and policy, including the Iowa Farm Income Tax Schools, Farm Estate and Business Planning and Real Estate and Insurance Seminars, and numerous other ISU Extension seminars. She is responsible for extensive research and writing in all areas of agricultural law and has been published in the Agricultural Law Update.  

The Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation at ISU, created by the Iowa Board of Regents in 2006, provides timely, objective information to producers, professionals and agribusinesses concerning the application of important developments in the law (federal and state legal opinions of relevance, as well as critical legislative developments), and is a primary source of professional educational training in agricultural law and taxation.

Ms. Herbold received a B.S. with distinction from Iowa State University in the Bachelor of Liberal Studies program, with an emphasis in English, Speech Communications, and Political Science in 2003 and a J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2006.

At the University of Iowa, she was an editor of a legal journal and active in the Iowa Student Bar Association, as well as the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. She is a member of the Iowa and American Bar Associations and the American Agricultural Law Association.
